Minnesota Storms Cause Damage

A powerful line of storms with heavy rain and winds that uprooted trees passed through southeaster Minnesota, uprooting trees and causing structural damage to homes and businesses.

Some residents in the path of the storms headed for their basements on Sunday when the winds started picking up. One property owner said that the storms snapped over 30 trees in the St. Charles area. Among those sustaining a great deal of damage was the Person Family Farm. Heavy winds blew away part of the barn roof and caused other damage.

Residents in the Spring Valley area had worked overnight to build sand bag barriers as the heavy rains caused flooding. This resulted in some schools being delayed by 2 hours on Monday morning due to the flooding.

This is just one of the recent storms that have moved through Minnesota causing extensive storm damage. Early in May, an unseasonable snowstorm moved through parts of the state, dropping up to 16 inches of snow in some places. In one community, the roof of a former car dealership collapsed under the weight of the snow, damaging the vehicles stored inside the building. The roof collapse was just one of a number of roof collapses and property damage that occurred during the storm.
