At First Impressions Exteriors, how we do the work matters as much as the finished result. We’ve served homeowners and businesses across Minnesota and Wisconsin since 2008, handling roofing, siding, gutters, and windows with care.
Ted Thovson founded the company on a straightforward idea: do the job right and be honest with people. He grew up in Minnesota and learned construction by doing it. That hands-on approach still shapes how we work. You’ll get good workmanship and real attention from the people responsible for your project.

Ted started installing roofs right out of high school in 2004. Years in the field taught him the trade and showed him what customers often weren’t getting: a contractor who listened and followed through. In 2020, his childhood friend Jeff Sklar joined him as a partner. Jeff studied business administration and brought years of exterior remodeling sales and project management experience. They shared a view of the kind of company they wanted to run.
We’ve grown, but we still work like a small business. We don’t take on more jobs than we can do well, and we don’t cut corners. Each project matters to us because it matters to the person who lives or works there.
Ted and Jeff grew up in Minnesota’s northwest suburbs. They met on a basketball court in fifth grade, long before they went into business together. This is home, and we’re proud to work in the communities we know.

We work with homeowners, property managers, and business owners across Minnesota and Wisconsin. Our crew knows the materials we install and takes care with the details. We choose products from brands we trust so the finished work looks good and holds up.
Storm damage and insurance claims can be stressful. We can help you understand the work needed and stay informed as the project moves forward. If you’re planning an exterior update instead, we’ll give it the same attention. Either way, we’ll treat your property with care.
